Fully Utilizing Life as a Human

Do you ever realize how fragile your current position in life is?
We never know when it ends and where it goes.

Just before that happens, I would like to share with you some of the most important lessons I got during my stay in Singapore, yes - you guessed right - it was during the blessing ceremony led by His Holiness of Bhutan which was held at Ngee Ann Auditorium.

His Holiness of Bhutan was giving us the Amitayus Buddha empowerment. You may have known, Amitayus Buddha is more known as the Long-life Buddha. People might think those taking part in the empowerment must have their life spans extended! What a miracle!

But.. Wait till you hear my entire story. As translated by His Eminence Trizin Tsering Rimpoche (because His Holiness was speaking Dzongkha at the time), Amitayus Buddha does not prolong one's life span because each sentient being has its own karma or life force which is what determines the overall journey of existence. However, Buddha does enable the perfect utilization of one's life span.

If you know how to read, not 'literacy' in traditional sense though, you will see that there is quite a difference in the words I have been using. Utilization nearly means the same as exhaustion but the former denotes the optimalization in which one's life could serve to attain.

Put simply, let's illustrate our life span with an incense stick. Sooner or later, the incense will burn either completely or midway, but the whole process could take place in different scenarios. Wind might blow hard, exhausting the incense more quickly than expected; water could spill, putting out the incense; someone not in the mood might come snuffing it manually for no reason.

Similarly, say the length of our life span is 80 years, but that does not mean we will live up to 80 years - we could die midway for many reasons, just like what could happen to the incense.

Even if we work so hard toward noblest goal, without care, we still likely burn out young, agree?

Spiritual foundation is essential to fortify not only our true identity but also our very existence. With an enormous level of devotion, one may smoothly receive the blessings and care of Amitayus Buddha in leading this fragile human life. Despite its notion being called as 'empowerment,' in the absence of thoughtful and conscious efforts, one can never be benefited through the process.

Therefore the crucial element still lies in the receiver. Similar to learning, no matter how outstanding a teacher is, if one does not intently take the words of the teacher seriously, one not only does not receive benefits from the teaching, but also worse, misinterpretation could result and one ends up in dire consequences.

We were very fortunate to have received the Amitayus Buddha empowerment from His Holiness of Bhutan. Indeed it remains the most precious moment in our being as it amounts to having received blessings and empowerment from the kindest Amitayus Buddha himself. If one could open his/her heart, one can never resist the flowing tears on one's cheeks. Yes, indeed it is the same as having met the most precious and most beloved Buddha himself.

I will stop describing what happens to me and let you taste what it felt to me:

Even after what I have done Mother..
You still open the door
and let me be home
Often as I play too excitedly
I forget about going home
but as I run out of toys
and realize I have been lonely
at the outdoors
you are always there
indoors waiting for me
loyally waiting to accept my return
How can I repay your kindness, Mother?

Buddha is just like our Mother

All that you want is
my becoming A Buddha myself
to be free from suffering
sheltering other children in need
this is what you ever wish of me

If we consciously be mindful of Buddha, when time is done, we will definitely return home safely.
Yes, be mindful, anytime, anywhere.
Easier said than done, but the effort will bring your entire life time to full utilization.

A convenient way for you to do is to remember Guru, and in my experience, by remembering Him, any obstacles we face can be handled accordingly. I wish all beings could similarly be benefited through this treasured karmic link with endless Buddhas.

Pure Golden 8-Inch-Tall Buddha

Premiere Launching of Mani Kabum

To support Buddha Dordenma Image Foundation, we are delighted to announce the official launching of the Golden Volumes of Mani Kabum I & II--Prophecies and Teachings of The Great Compassion. The volumes will be ready by the end of September 2007.

As many as 150 sets premiere, comprising Mani Kabum Volume I (960 pages) & II (848 pages) within a hardcover slipcase, are being put up for auctioning with an immediate effect.

Life-transforming Benefits of BDP

As long as there is a cause, there always will be an effect. Through this timeless principle all beings have the freedom to be liberated from all kinds of pain and suffer given an opportunity to cultivate a noble cause for own sake.

BDP is especially handy when it comes to reaching unfortunate beings because this is indeed the most fertile ground to cultivate virtues. When there is a determination, there will be a way. If we can save each day for less than US$1, in less than 2 years as much as $500 can be accumulated and therefore everyone can participate in BDP by sponsoring one unit of 8"-tall Buddha. Besides, one is entitled to have their name(s) carved, be it of parents, siblings, or all sentient beings.

Let us soon devise our plans to take part in this BDP. Rare oppurtinities do not come very often. Make the best use of it when we are still endowed with breaths.

Facing all kinds of life obstacles and ordeals, what can we fall back to?
Facing deaths, what can we bring along?

Future well-being depends completely on the current efforts.
Similarly if we do not work hard collecting food and storing it in the warehouse, when winter arrives, no food will be available when we need to eat.
Every second in the present counts!

Palms of Golden Virtues

During the period of Shakyamuni Buddha, a baby was born with both palms holding one piece of golden coin each. The mother out of couriosity tried taking away the golden coins out of his palms yet other coins kept growing over and over again. Witnessing such miraculous phenomenon, mother was aware this must have had been the virtues cultivated in his previous lifetimes. the baby was then named as Golden Virtues.

Golden Virtues looked gorgeous and charismatic, with his tender and loving character, nobody can help but like him. One day as he found out about a wise Guru that could liberate all beings from suffers and pains, he decided to learn from Him and become a disciple of Him, the Buddha. Golden Virtues asked permission from his parents and began his journey to meet with Buddha.

As Golden Virtues had his hair cut to become a monk, he had to give prostrations to all the senior brothers (monks). His hands touched the ground completely as he knelt down. As he stood up, there were two golden coins left on the traces of his palms. For each prostration he gave to each monk, two golden coins were naturally left on the ground. Not long after his becoming a monk, Golden Virtues soon attained the Arahat level.

One day Ananda enquired Buddha, "Guru, Golden Virtues had done what in his previous lifetimes that has resulted in current great virtues with both palms able to produce golden coins and meeting Guru to become a monk. Then with great wisdom he attains Arahat level very soon. Please Guru provide us with understanding."

"About 91 aeons ago, there lived a Buddha with His disciples traveling to all directions to teach the Dharma. At that time, a beggar was very happy to know their coming and soon he decided to go into the forests, chopped down some woods and sold them in return for two coins. As soon as he received his coins, he instantly went to see the Buddha and offered Him and His disciples the two coins he had put on his palms. With deep sincerity and great happiness, the beggar had offered his only property, two coins, to Buddha and holy beings, therefore he has been receiving great virtues for 91 aeons long even until now, the beggar is the current Golden Virtues."

Determination & Destiny

While sharing with friends on one occasion, a friend of mine told me about his Singaporean friend.

His friend is a mother of two children, one 16-year-old girl named Debbie* and her younger brother. After the passing away of her husband, mother is always trying her best to provide for both of her beloved children. Without a second thought of getting remarried, she single-mindedly becomes a successful IT consultant with a monthly earning of US$50,000.

When His Eminence Trizin Rinpoche visited Singapore, Debbie and her mother happened to be visiting him along with many other followers. People were having a great time chatting about living and Dharma. After some time, when mother was about to leave, Debbie instantly knelt on her knees handing to His Eminence a red envelope (hongbao).

"What is this for, Debbie?" asked His Eminence.

"To invest in Buddha Dordenma," replied her.

"Wow! US$1000! How did you get this?" asked His Eminence.

Debbie then explained that upon knowing about the project about two years ago, she decided to capitalize on this golden opportunity to do a great offering in this lifetime. During every holiday break, she worked in restaurants as a dish-washer for S$6/hour. For more than 6 months she managed to accumulate US$1000!

Mother was surprised and told Debbie that if she had wanted to do so, she could ask from her instead.

Debbie answered that it was not about money, but about "value" of the action.

"Not every moment can we strive to act in the best interest of others."

She wanted to exert her own efforts in this grand opportunity, "Besides, money or fame cannot be brought along with us after death. Only our own deeds can accompany us forever, which are our real wealth!"

Everybody in the room was deeply inspired by the girl who was determined and finally managed to invest in one unit of 12-inch-tall Buddha Dordenma. And so am I inspired by her.

Not only do I keep spreading this golden news to everyone anywhere, but I even encourage those friends of mine that are financially difficult to be compulsory participants of this project! No pain, no gain. For those financially sound, money is not a matter, but determination does matter here!
Whoever we are, what matters here is "devotion."

What we give away is not lost, instead they are morphing into our real wealth.
By knowing the certainty of the action outcome, why not take this once-in-a-lifetime chance with you?

Congratulations to you, due to your previous virtues you are now enabled to learn of this project. The thing is, are you going to seize this destiny-changing opportunity?

Time is ticking, merits are diminishing, lifespan is declining...

Priceless Opportunity from Buddha

Attention! Splendid News!

All of us - YES, You and I, everyone -will have
the largest and tallest statue of Lord Buddha and together
we could make it an eighth wonder of the world.

The 169ft (51m) tall bronze Buddha, symbolizing indestructibility, will be erected at Changri Kunsel Phodrang, overlooking Thimphu, in the Kingdom of Bhutan. This project is initiated by His Eminence Trizin Tsering Rinpoche.

The statue will accommodate 100,000 statues of eight-inch and 25,000 statues of twelve-inch Buddha Dordenma, made of copper and gilded in gold, placed in multi-layered grid boxes. The names of sponsors will be inscribed separately on copper plates and displayed in the meditation hall.

The well-being of future generations is dependant on the kindness and compassion of the present sponsors and Buddha makers. This project benefits oneself and all beings.
